CJ O’Hara

Spotlight Youth Theatre welcomes CJ O’Hara as the new Musical Director for the advanced performance troupe program, The Rhythm Experience. Local patrons and performers may recognize him from his theatre work around the Valley, such as being resident Musical Director for Brelby Theatre in Glendale.

CJ attended William Paterson University, where he earned his degree in Music Education with a focus on piano performance, voice and brass pedagogy. He spent the next decade teaching at public and private schools, while growing his business in private lessons and theatre. He has written several musicals, one which received its New York debut.

Since moving to Arizona in 2015, CJ has musically directed, and performed on stage and off, for many theatres including Brelby, Ghostlight, Mesa Encore, and Theater Works. He also co-teaches Music Theatre classes at Paradise Valley Community College, as well as providing private lessons on piano, voice, guitar and trumpet with students throughout the Valley (see CJOHaraMusic.com).

CJ also performs close-up magic professionally, and has his pilot’s license with instrument rating.

Whether it’s finding the perfect audition song, getting the student to feel confident on trumpet, teaching a great audition workshop, leading the ensemble at the piano, or having an entire room sing along to his music, CJ has a great passion and enthusiasm for what he does and loves sharing the music and magic!
