Director’s Note

From the playbill:

When wrapping up the theme of this beautiful story, Olaf says it best: “Love is putting someonemelse’s needs before yours.” Love and fear have been prominent themes since the beginning of time.

Elsa and Anna are both on a journey of discovery and learn something unexpected in the process. Elsa journeys to the North Mountain believing that everyone will now be safe from her powers, while she herself can be free to use her powers without worrying about anyone else. When she finds out that Arandelle is frozen, she realizes that she must confront her fear and she discovers that love is the answer.

Anna is on a journey to find true love and discovers that true love is nothing like what she imagined. The battle between Fear and Love is central to this story. Elsa can never control her powers while she allows herself to be imprisoned by her own fear. Anna cannot understand true love until she is prepared to make the biggest sacrifice of all.

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13)

In the end, Elsa says to Anna, “The magic one is you,” realizing that Anna’s bright personality and unconditional love are exactly the magic combination that she needs to “bring back summer.”

“There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out all fear…” (1John 4:18)
